It was probably a good thing that the van was parked, because otherwise BA would have driven it right off the road when Murdock leaned around the drivers seat and pressed his lips to BA's cheek.

"What was that for, fool?" BA snapped, looking over his shoulder at the pilot.

"Wǒ qíngbùzìjīn de wěnle nǐ, shì yīn wéi qí zài zhōngguó de yī zhǐ húdié pāidǎ chìbǎng," Murdock replied.

"Fool, I know you ain't speaking no Chinese," BA warned.

"Now, BA, what I said was—" Murdock opened the door of the van and all but bolted, yelling the translation over his shoulder—"I impulsively kissed you because a butterfly flapped its wings in China!"

When Face and Murdock rounded the corner and were sprinting for the van, Murdock was slumped against Face's side, the latter practically pulling the former along and pushing him into the van.

Murdock was unusually limp and compliant, and a hell of a lot quieter than normal. He slumped against the wall and looked around him. "Hey, Hannibal," he greeted when his eyes finally focused on someone.

"Easy, Murdock," Hannibal said in response, looking the pilot over and waving Face into the front seat. "What happened to him?"

"They got me on some good drugs, Hannibal," Murdock replied, smiling lopsidedly.

"'Drugs?'" Hannibal repeated, raising his eyebrows.

"Whenever we get new doctors, they're never sure what to do with me," Murdock explained, nearly slurring the words, "so they put me on sumpm to calm me down. New guy musta got me on sumpm powerful…"

"Come on…" Hannibal suggested, easing the pilot into lying down on his side. It took next to nothing to get Murdock sleeping it off as they drove, using his own arm as a pillow. Hannibal watched him, thinking about what Murdock had said.

Damn VA doctors. So far as Hannibal Smith cared, they had no right to pump the kid with sedatives if he wasn't endangering anyone. So he was a little crazy and could work your last nerve. What they didn't know was that Murdock was capable, one of the best damn pilots in the western world (and the eastern, about a decade ago) and one of the best men with whom he'd ever served.

There would be words exchanged with the doctor who made that piss poor decision when this mission was over.

"Huh, that's interestin'."

Face glanced over at Murdock, though he didn't see him. "What's that, Murdock?"

"National Geographic article," Murdock answered, holding up the magazine and flipping the pages briefly for emphasis. "Talkin' 'bout African grey parrots and they can be as smart as a human toddler."

"No kidding?" Face replied.

"If it's in Nat Geo, you know it's true," the pilot noted, turning the page.

"What else does it say?" Face asked, turning slightly toward him.

Murdock looked up at Face. It like he was asking a question that wasn't what else the article said. The only person he asked to read him anything was Hannibal; Murdock felt like he was being trusted, and it felt pretty damn good, all things considered, he thought as he started to read the article, out loud, from the beginning.

"Is Murdock… drunk?" The question, posed by Hannibal, had been on the other three's minds for the past two minutes as they watched Murdock weaving back and forth in something that could only dream of being a straight line.

"Fool's crazy, Hannibal," BA reminded, shaking his head.

"This is kind of weird, even for Murdock's brand of crazy," Face dismissed before calling over, "Hey, uh, Murdock? What's with the weaving?"

"Dodgin' butterflies!" Murdock called back, curving to the left.

"There ain't no butterflies, Murdock!" BA yelled.

Murdock paused and fixed BA with an almost disapproving look. "Just 'cause you can't see 'em, Bosco, doesn't mean they're not there."

Write a Day. 83

I didn’t realize that Murdock was in all four of these until I looked at the notes for them. And then a lol’d because Murdock is a dear sweet thing who loves being in the limelight in my inner mind theater. And he’s incredibly fun to write for.

Chinese, for butterfly. I took the line from one of the NaNoWriMo forums earlier this summer and finally found a chance to use it. Please note that I had to turn to Google Translate for the Chinese, so sorry if it’s wrong. >>;

Hey, movie Murdock speaks Swahili; why can’t TV Murdock know enough Chinese to piss off BA? xD
Edit - 29 July 2011: Apparently, this is canon. Season II, Episode 13, "Maltese Cow": What can I say? One day I had this gonzo headache and before it went away I could read and speak Chinese.

I absolutely love writing this combination, Hannibal and Murdock. I sort of pulled from something I’ve seen on the A-Team kink meme, with Murdock being subject to electroshock therapy or being drugged. I liked the idea of the latter because it smell of dystopia, which I adore, so I ended up poking it with a stick.

The quote doesn’t have much relevance, but I do like it for Hannibal and Murdock’s relationship. <3 (Favorite non-slash duo for this fandom say wha?)

Told ya I’d play with this AU again. 8D

Not as happy with with this fill as I’d hoped, but it was kind of on the fly. Oh well.

Another idea pulled from the NaNoWriMo forums. The idea was just sweet.
