Confound these ponies they drive me to drink fic. Anyway—OMG PONY OTP FTWWWW.

Okay the characterization scared the shit out of me. You have two background ponies who have barely spoken in going on two seasons now with little in the way of voice reference, so we’ve got one hell of a challenge. Besides which, how do you characterize Derpy—mentally challenged, kinda nutty or just cockeyed? I was asked to write her as being in the same vein as A-Team Murdock in this case. And thus we have a strange little marriage of mind canon and fanon. :shrug:

Given that Doctor Whooves looks so much like David Tennant, that's where I pulled most of my inspiration and the mental voice when I wrote the dialogue*. The scarf was kind of a last minute thing, a (very) little tip of the hat to the Fourth Doctor's mile-long scarf. xD

Canon Notes: I'm dismissing Derpy having an older daughter (Dinky's sister), as seen in Sisterhooves Social in the 5 November 2011 episode. If I recall correctly, the Dinky there had a Cutie Mark, and it's not like animator's can make a new pony every single time. Crowd scenes would be such a bitch otherwise. So before you ask—I'm writing that Dinky off as a different pony, an extra, and there is no older sister. Only Zuul.

* I now want someone to spoof the line, "I'm the Doctor and I just snogged Madame du Pompadour! 8D " with Doctor Whooves and Derpy. Just sayin'.

The AU (which desperately needs a better name, I’m willing to take suggestions) was spawned as part of the Write-a-Day Challenge we’re tackling, wherein one of the prompts was to design an AU. Humanization with Knight Rider was too easy, so I ended up developing something different—a role reversal. In this, KITT is a human female (male!KITT = does not compute) with the same basic backstory, and Michael is a sentient Trans AM.

Michael was a challenge to make into an AI. He’s still very spirited and headstrong—much like his “older brother” KARR. Part of that spirit is him not wanting to go by his “assigned name”—that is, his serial number—because it implies ownership.

I think I’m starting to lose my ability to come up with snappy titles and such. I can’t say I care for this title. :/

I swear to God, if you had told me I’d develop a minor Knight Rider OC when I first got into this fandom, I’d have punched you in the mouth and told you to go screw yourself. Apparently, my mind canon (finicky bitch that it is) had other plans. The tl;dr of it is that I ended up applying a shitload of thought to Devon’s backstory, and ended up establishing his family as being his father (canon), his mother and a younger sister. And then my mind canon tells me that said younger sister was in a wheelchair. And much to my fascination, I was running off trying to find out why, and ended up learning that this being the 1920s, before the vaccines came into play and when it was a very serious threat to one’s health, she had polio as a little girl.

And then I got the visual of Devon as young boy beating the snot out of one of his schoolmates because the nitwit made the mistake of picking on his sister. And then I shared that visual with loco. Which is how this fic got commissioned. xD

Uhhh… Devon and Florence are supposed to be 14 and 12 here. I know nothing about the education system in the UK, let alone education in the UK in 1935. (A number that may or may not be an asspull. >>) It’s actually really hard to picture Devon as… anything younger than in his sixties. Or however the hell old he was in 1982. And of course, it’s hard to find the first damn color photo of Edward Mulhare in anything he did pre-Knight Rider, so I’m SOL. If anyone knows where these photos are hiding, cough up the links plzkthx

Additionally, I’m not too thrilled with what little characterization I gave Devon’s father. What I was shooting for was stern and certainly expecting better of his son, but he does love both of his children. Fail Y / N? And guess who knows nothing about knitting? 8D

What I do love is the interaction between Devon and Florence. They are possibly the cutest brother sister duo ever and it’s awesome. I may have to see if I can find more bunnies for these two. x3

This is so completely 100% AU-ish. Basically, we bred a bunny that KITT is afraid of needles—not for himself, but for Michael because someone could use them to harm him. Then my weird-ass mind canon pops up and informs me that Michael is diabetic, part of which would include shooting insulin. And as is the case with a lot of my weird ass mind canon, it gelled and wouldn’t get out and basically brought this into my brain.

I wrote this so fast. D: It all but wrote itself. Really the only hiccup was my hypoglycemia research, but that’s why I talk to people. c: I really enjoyed doing said research for some odd reason… Maybe because I was in semi-familiar territory, given that my dad is diabetic, but I know no one cares about that.

Ngh holy shit I love writing for KITT. I mean damn. <3
