*surprise bitches, I bet you'd thought you'd seen the last of me dot gif*

SO HOW ABOUT THAT QL SEQUEL? The new QL is wonderful in so many ways, and that includes reigniting my love of the og series. Oh Universe, why did you steal Dean Stockwell from us? So have this fanfic!

As we learned in the episode "Play Ball," (Season IV Episode 2), Sam and Al met during the Starbright Project—specifically during the latter drunkenly beating the shit out of a vending machine. The standing headcanon I adopted from @nikanaiko on Tumblr is… well basically this set up.

Title comes from, of course, then novel on which Man of La Mancha is based, Don Quixote

Title: Simple Signs
Author: TheCrazyAlaskan
Fandom / Setting: Quantum Leap AU (see comments) – c.f. "The Leap Home, pt. I," New York, 1949
Characters / Pairings: Al Calavicci, Sam Beckett, Trudy Calavicci
Rating: K+
Genre: General
Word Count: 608
Summary: How could Sam tell Al that he was tilting at windmills?

An AU spawned with [livejournal.com profile] locoexclaimer wherein simply Al is the leaper and Sam is the project observer. We have a laundry list of episodes that needed hit on, and The Leap Home is one of them—on the top of that list, in fact. In it, Al would leap into himself at age fifteen (part one), and then into another patient at Trudy's mental institution to prevent her death (part two). Want this like the sun burns.

My mind canon completely dictates that Al would be a special education god for this reason alone—I tend to think he did more parenting for Trudy than his parents did, so he's used to it. I'm basically letting my job talk for me (that's the reason I got so attached to him having a sister with Downs, and why I cried like a baby when I watched "Jimmy"). Al's teaching his baby sister sign language, hand over hand for God's sake.

Yeah, it turned out far sadder than I wanted. I should write something happier for part two. Suggestions please?

Title: Captured in a Photograph
Author: TheCrazyAlaskan
Fandom / Setting: Quantum Leap – Coda for "Jimmy" (02 x 08)
Characters / Pairings: Al (x) Sam, mentions of Trudy
Rating: K+
Genre: General
Word Count: 590
Warnings / Notes: …Glimpse into big brother Al?; title from NaNoWriMo forums
Summary: It occurred to Al that Sam had never seen a picture of his sister.

Kind of spawned on the fly this morning and I didn’t want to let it go. I couldn’t think of any place to house this scenario, and I wanted it to make sense in the context of the leap. That and this is one of my favorite episodes. (We'll see what happens when I get to MIA and The Leap Home.)

Despite the pairing factor not being obvious, assume Sam x Al is at play in some way here.

Title: Denial
Author: TheCrazyAlaskan
Fandom / Setting: Quantum Leap – Coda for "8 ½ Months"
Characters / Pairings: Sam Beckett x Al Calavicci
Genre: General
Rating: T
Word Count: 1463
Warnings / Notes: Genderswap.

I love this episode. Wonderful Sam x Al interactions, a great story—and who can resist a little canon mpreg? 8D

I've wanted to genderswap this scene—strike that, this entire episode—from the start. Of course, it ends up being super sad because my mind canon for female Sam is that she lost the baby she conceived with Al. Denial was something I couldn’t cut out for this scene, so I had to add another layer to it with her not being able to carry a baby to term to begin with. :c

I have one other scene I want to work with, and maybe if I play my cards right, I can pick something a little happier. (I'm sorely tempted to do the scene where Sam is in labor with Billie Jean's baby. It's times like this that I wish Al wasn't a hologram on Sam's leaps because holy Jesus, the visual of Sam grabbing Al's shirtsleeve and practically begging, "Get it out, Al! Get it out!" is too powerful for me to resist.)

Fandom / Setting: Quantum Leap, pre-series
Characters / Pairings: Al Calavicci x Sam Beckett
Rating: T
Genre: Hurt / Comfort, Angst
Musical Inspiration: Imagine – Scott Bakula | Imagine – John Lennon
Relevant Quote: But, Madam, let your grief be laid aside, / And let the fountain of your tears be dry'd – Phyllis Wheatley, Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral
Warnings / Notes: Sad fic. Genderswapped Sam. Bunny tweaked from [livejournal.com profile] locoexclaimer.
Prompt from locoexclaimer: A character experiences a disaster and loses something dear to them, and gets help from a very close friend.

Write a Day challenge, and more depressing QL fic.

Every so often I like to imagine Sam as a woman. My mind canon for Sam x Al in that situation is that they conceived, but Sam miscarried. (It makes imagining "8 ½ Months" with Sam as a woman kind of beautifully painful.) Al canonically didn’t want kids with Beth, and locoexclaimer suggested that he initially didn't want to keep the baby with Sam… It all converges in this.

So, heh heh… When I was writing this, I had Sam and Al sitting in the bar of my mind canon boarding house, chatting them up about this and working on it, and Al insisted on calling female Sam, "Sammy." I couldn’t get him to go with Sam and ended up finding it too cute to pass up. <3 Anything to keep him talking because I love writing for his voice. It's hard trying to write native New York and not be kicking myself, "It sounds stupid, Al would never ay that if you paid him" kind of a thing. But DATVOICE.

What is it with me and writing Al x 63!Sam fics in three parts? :/
Also, Scott Bakula's version of "Imagine" is heartbreaking.

Title: Snark and Banter
Author: TheCrazyAlaskan
Fandom / Setting: Quantum Leap (pre-series)
Characters / Pairings: Sam Beckett x Al Calavicci
Rating: T
Genre: General
Warnings / Notes: Genderswap.
Prompt from [livejournal.com profile] locoexclaimer: It's genderswap time again. No limit on series, rating at least a T.

All it took to make me want to finish this was listening to Scott Bakula's performance of Don Quioxte. Fuck yeah. 8D
The title stems from the basic nature of Sam and Al's dialogue. It’s awesome listening to them talk.

I couldn't make it work unless it was in three parts. However, I had to reference Al's dress uniform because let's face it—fuck yeah. 8D

Envisioning this is weird—Dean Stockwell is 5' 6" to Scott Bakula's 6'; if I didn't change the heights, it'd be so weird… Crazy tall female Sam, kinda short Al. (I find great amusement in the latter, given that I'm 5' 5".) So… I dunno, try to make Sam a little shorter here, if you'd like.

Title: July 23, 1967

Genre: General
Word Count: 191
Warnings / Notes: Prompt from [livejournal.com profile] locoexclaimer: Oneshot, stand-alone or part of a series of events. Scene: any human character is getting a gun pointed at their head.

Wow, my first foray into Quantum Leap fanfiction and it's so freaking short. And it's suffering from a severe deficit of Sam x Al. *le sigh*

Anyway, the setting: the 1967 Detroit Riots. Why this, I'll never know. Sam's had canon brushes with history, why not?
I wanted this to read like the start of an earlier episode of Quantum Leap—so you have a nice voiceover from Sam, and then you cut into him as he's leaping into whomever. I have no idea what Sam is there to fix, or when Al is going to show up. >>;

I like writing for Sam—Scott Bakula has a very pleasant voice to write for. When I get a proper Sam x Al bunny, Al is going to be good to write for, too, also because Dean Stockwell has a good voice to write for, too.
