Okay this is a little embarrassing, which is why it’s sticking to LJ for now, as opposed to DeviantArt.
I’ve finally cracked and admitted it to myself that I like My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. Technically speaking, it’s a show for girls in the 5-10 age bracket, so I should be a little embarrassed, though I do take comfort in the fact that dudes my age and slightly older are die hard fans. (This is actually the second fandom I’ve been in where the fans have nicknames for themselves, the first being Star Trek and Trekkies.)
The problem is these fucking Technicolor ponies have been eating my brain. D: I’ve been developing theories for everythiiiiiiiiiing. For example:
>>> DJ P0N-3: Referenced in the affectionate parody of Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” titled “Equestria Girls;” also known as Vinyl Scratch. This one comes from a macro I found on My Little Brony. Yeah, you get the joke of Rainbow Dash being mistaken for a turntable, but I latched onto that like burning and somehow ended up deciding that the character is blind, which would explain the glasses, even in a dark club. On top of that, when you cut off one sense (in this case, sight) the others are heightened—so she would probably have a better ear for music than the average pony.
>>> Rainbow Dash: My mind canon states very firmly that Rainbow Dash is male to female (MTF) transgendered, as referenced in Easier and its inspiration, found here on DeviantArt.com. I know the fan consensus is lesbian (or hella fucking tomboyish), but I can’t unsee it. I mean, Apple Bloom (Applejack’s little sister) actually said to Dash, “You’re a really nice colt…” Colt—as in, a male pony. I shit you not. I think it adds a nice dynamic to the core cast to have a male character. (I’m fully aware Spike exists, but let’s stick with the four legged characers.)
Try this—put on Reflection from Mulan and think about it from Dash's (or, if you'd prefer a more general POV, just FTM) standpoint—not recognizing the girl in the mirror as yourself (Who is that girl I see / Staring straight back at me? / Why is my reflection / Someone I don’t know?), and being afraid you’ll never be a good enough daughter for your family (Look at me / I will never pass / For a perfect bride / Or a perfect daughter). It’s sad, and this song has been irreversibly corrupted for me.
As a side note, I get a little misty eyed when Dash pulls off the Sonic Rainboom. I can’t lie… but I don’t know why I get like that, either. >.>;
>>> Derpy Hooves: Paraphrased form Lauren Faust: Canonically named Ditzy Doo, but she can be Derpy if everyone likes. She was a background character the fans kinda latched onto, and I’m just late to the party. I’m trying to figure her out—if she’s just cockeyed or there’s some high functioning intellectual / developmental thing going on. I’m leaning more toward the latter, but my job affects the way I think.
>>> Twilight Sparkle: Not so much a theory of my own, but an observation. Apparently, a lot of fans think Twilight has Asperger’s Syndrome (AS). For the link-phobic, it’s a milder form of autism that most affects interpersonal relationships. I can see why people would subscribe to that theory, but I personally don’t see it, unless it’s very mild. I may explore this more in-depth.
Okay I’ll just shut up and crawl back into my hole of shame to jam out to Equestria Girls.
