As a boy, Murdock loved things that flew. When most children were terrified of winged insects, he wasn’t. He was a little boy growing up in the south chasing after bumblebees and butterflies.
There was one butterfly in particular—blue and black with hints of red. Those were abundant in summer, and his favorite to watch.
For years he couldn’t figure out why, until he remembered. One of his first memories was seeing on when he was a baby, and his mother was still around.

Yes I’m behind on my Write-a-Day. No I’m not proud of myself. Shoosh.
Okay, y’all, be honest—do I write too much Murdock fic? I hope not because damnit I love writing him.
I had such high hopes for this. It’s a tricky thing to work with—I don’t want to trivialize the emotional aspect but it’s so short. Meh, fuck it.
The butterfly in question is the Limenitis arthemis astyanax—red-spotted purple butterfly.
