Pseudo Philosophical Shit

Cross posted to [pick two] DA / LiveJournal / Tumblr; sorry for any repeats.
I have nothing else to really talk about, so I'm going to go on a small tangent.
As per usual, I've been watching a fair bit of Quantum Leap lately. For those of you just tuning in, Sam x Al is my OTP. There's only two problems with this:
1.) The amount of fic / art is disappointingly low.
2.) The fic I have found… isn't very good. :/
This is where Sturgeon's Law and The Theorem of Narrow Interests kick in, I know, I know… Still, I want to point out some of my thoughts.
First, Sam is gayer than a flagpole on May Day. I can point out at least three instances when he was clearly very, very uncomfortable when on the receiving end of a woman's affections (Sea Brides, One Strobe Over the Line and Southern Comforts). Southern Comforts is especially interesting because Sam leapt into the proprietor of a bordello (for those of you who looked it up, you're welcome ;3 ), had women pawing at him all the damn time and was clearly very uncomfortable. He also snapped at Al for coming in without any information just to do his once an episode window-shopping. Which brings me around to point two—
Al is pretty obviously straight. Al ogling a woman (or hitting on Sam if his host is a woman, barring 8 ½ Months) or making some remark or another is a once-an-episode occurrence, not to mention the various mentions of Tina and Al's previous marriages.
My gripe with Sam x Al fic is the same as my gripe with Garak x Bashir—the sex. I have a really hard time bringing myself to read Sam x Al sex. I have a really, really hard time brushing off the aforementioned stuff with Al's various lady friends and wives and accepting him jumping right into sex with Sam. Hell, I have a hard time getting him to let Sam kiss him on the forehead, let alone the lips.
Basically, I look at their relationship like this: Sam I imagine does find Al attractivelol who can blame him. Meanwhile, Al's attraction to Sam is more mental / emotional and physical or sexual.
As a silly unrelated side note, it's kinda fun watching Al fanboy over food—Mama Backett's peach cobbler and crawfish gumbo are two examples. I prefer the former because it actually crossed the border into cute. 83
