thecrazyalaskanThere was something about flying that made everything else fall away. The wind in a pony’s mane, the way it whistled in your ears and made you squint against it. The feeling of being above everything, going as fast as your wings could take you and aerial stunts and the rush you got.
Everything was under Rainbow Dash’s control when the pony was flying. Maybe that was why it was the only time he felt comfortable in his own skin.
When he was flying, at least it was easy to ignore that the pony on the inside didn’t match the pony on the outside, that he’d always felt a little different… It was easier to forget that no one seemed to really understand why he felt the way he did, why he wanted to be a boy.
That explained a lot of why he’d been flying so much as of late.

Okay, bear with me. There’s a lovely fan fiction on DeviantArt (Part One is here) that explores the idea of FiM Rainbow Dash being female to male (FTM) transgendered. The idea sort of stuck in my mind and now I can’t unsee it and it’s in my mind canon and I love it.
I listened to both versions of “Reflection” while writing this, which explains a lot of the sad tone. When you listen to it as if from Dash’s point of view, not recognizing his own (female) reflection, it’s a really depressing song.
Other than that? Not much to say here. Enjoy.
